The number of tourists who stayed at Sibiu in 2012 was the highest ever, surpassing even 2007, when the city was European Capital of Culture, as witnessed by the City of hotel tax revenue, announced Thursday, Mayor Klaus Johannis.
Mayor of Sibiu, Klaus Johannis, said Thursday at a press conference that 2012 was "best" for tourism, surpassing even 2007, when Sibiu was the European Capital of Culture.
"We have confirmation from the data that in 2012, the tourism sector has been the best year of all the years I've had before. Year 2012 exceeded even 2008, which in turn slightly in 2007. We work only data we have, collection of hotel tax that reflects the number of tourists who visited Sibiu and spent the night here. We know that a large number of tourists coming to Sibiu and not overnight. We do not know in detail their number, but I think it's reasonable presumption that if the number of tourists grew dark, increased the total number of tourists who visited Sibiu, "said Johannis.
