Manastiri din Bucovina

Bucovina is one of the most attractive and popular tourist regions from Romania. Not by a coincidence, in this area, known nowadays in the whole world, was distinguished in 1975 with “Pome d’Or”  toffee  by the International Federation of Journalists and Tourist writers and the architectural monuments with interior and exterior frescos from this place were considered by UNESCO Universal Art Monuments.

Cradle of ancient civilization, where history goes together with the legend, Bucovina keeps the clues of the presence of the human beings from the oldest times. The 96 graves of incineration that were found in Zvoristea, like the archeological discoveries from Silistea Scheii, Suceava, Bosanci, Probota or Dolhestii Mari show the existence of traco-getic settlements and dacic very well contoured. The Bucovinean regions were the place where it developed in the 14th century, of the feudal independent statute of Moldova. Settlements like Baia, Siret, Suceava, Radauti have been keeping since nowadays buildings from the times of the first Moldavian voivodes. Other towns like Putna, where in 1871 the festivity of 400 years from the building of  foundation of Stefan cel Mare transformed, with the participation of Mihai Eminescu, Mihai Slavici, Ciprian Porumbescu and of other youngsters from all over the country into a big manifestation of socializing between the Romanians from all over, was showing the role that the Suceveans had have in all this time.

Parhauti Church

Parhauti Church

The “Tuturor Sfintilor” church from Parhauti is situated at the end of a heavy road, near to the road to Suceava and Radauti. The huge church has rectangular shape, having an estic apse, being the only one. A straight roof covers the structure.

The windows, two on each side, on North and on South, are small and narrow. They have sculpted borders.

Summary: St. Ilie Church was first built for a little monastery, near Suceava. Now it doesn’t exist any more and the town has developed around the church.

 
Arbore Monastery

Arbore Monastery

Location: Arbore, Suceava county.

Summary: It is not known since when the paintings exist. There was discovered an inscription inside the church, that specifies the fact that Dragos, son of the priest called Coman, from Iasi, painted the church in 1541. It is considered that this is the date for the exterior paintings, as well for the inside paintings.

 
Balinesti Monastery

Location: Balinesti, Suceava county.

Summary: The shape of the church is simple. The rectangular body without any lateral apse and a polygonal estic apse, were quite usual during Stefan cel Mare’s reign.

Summary: “Pogorarea Duhului Sfant” church  is unique in the whole country because of its proportions It is by far the tallest and the most narrow church ever built. The walls are not painted, but they are decorated

 
Humor Monastery

Humor Monastery

Location: Humor Monastery, Suceava county

Humor Monastery is situated on Humor river, close to Gura Humorului town, surrounded by forested hills. Around, in the valley of the river there was formed the village that gives the name to the monastery, The Humor Monastery. The ruins of the first church of Humor Monastery or Humor, as it was known by then, are situated 500 meters to it

Summary: The most important characteristic of “Buna Vestire” church is the exonarthex, with the 3 arches on the west façade. From all the churches from Bucovina, the exterior paintings kept in their best forms.

 
Probota Monastery

Location: Probota, Suceava county

Summary: The paintings from the outside the church St Nicolau are nothing compared to those from the inside, that are part of the most special of this kind from Moldova. The monastery was included in the National Patrimony from 1993. The church and the paintings from the outside and the ones from the inside and also the buildings that belong to it had been restaured by UNESCO and the Romanian Government between 1996 and 2000. Ruins of the old monastery were found in the archeological excavations that had been made.

 
Putna Monastery

Putna Monastery

The grand Putna Monastery is situated 30 km North-Western of Radauti, near Putna river. The monastery and the village with the same name are surrounded by forested hills and wilderness. Stefan cel Mare built the monastery as being his future grave, between 1466 and 1469 and the Church “Adormirea Maicii Domnului” was sanctified one year later.
