The Natural Park Vanatori Neamt
The National Park Vanatori Neamt is situated on the East of the Stanisoara Mountains in the North of the Neamt county. The park has a surface of 30818 hectares, from which over 26300 hectares are the forests. The Natural Park Vanatori Neamt was founded in 1998 to represent and conserve a population of bisons- an extinction specie from our fauna. The main objectives of the administration of the park are the maintaining of the bio-diversity by conserving the species and the main ecosystems, as well as the landscapes from the park, creating the necessary conditions to release the bisons, the increasing of the eco-tourism and promoting the natural values of the region, as well as implying the public and the community in conserving the values of the park, through educational programs.
Nowadays, in the Dragos-Voda Reservation there are 4 bisons, in a 4 hectares fold. Also in the reservation there are 3 lakes (Zimbrilor, Cerbilor and Capriorilor), rich in fishing fauna.
The main protected areas of the natural park are: The Silver Forest, Codrii de Arama, The Reservation Dumbrava, The Bisons Reservation and Carpathian Fauna “Dragos Voda”.
The Silver Forest is situated in Agapia and lies on a surface of 2,6 hectares. Codrii de Arama is also situated in Agapia, having a surface of about 10,2 hectares, having 300 species of plants.
The Oak Reservation Dumbrava is situated on the valley of the river Nemtisor, lying on 56,6 hectares. The administration is trying to conserve the forests of secular oaks, aging between 150 and 200 years. The Carpathians bisons and fauna reservation “Dragos Voda” is situated on the area of Vanatori, being founded in 1970 by bringing 3 bisons, also including nowadays Carpathian Deers, Bears, etc.
