The Ornithologic Reservation Satchinez
The Satchinez Muds are situated close to the Satchinez town, from Timis county, lying on 242 hectares. The reservation was founded in 1942 as ornithological natural reservation, being an excellent shelter area. Because of the numerous birds species from here, about 25% from the species from Romania, and because of the mud, the reservation is also called “Banatului Delta”.
The birds can be admired from April until the middle of September. The small egret, declared monument of nature, is the bird on which rapport the main preoccupation of protecting it and ornithological researching from Satchinez.
Among the species that shelter in the area we mention species declared monuments of the nature: the small egret, the big egret, the yellow aigrette, the small cormorant and also the night aigrette, the bittern, the small aigrette, the red aigrette, the grey aigrette, the wild duck, the slop chicken, etc.
The main natural reservation lies on 104 hectares, and the tampon area lies on 104 hectares and the tampon area became wider in 2002, to 1120 hectares. Starting with 1999 the reservation became part of the project Life Natura and so there were allocated important funds from the European Comission for the conservation of the mud from the area.
The actual mud area is a reminiscence from the old mud that covered until the 8th century these lands. After the muds dried out and the regularization of Tisa, as well as the main river from the field, places such as Satchinez, Izvorin Valley, Ierului Valley, became important because of the agglomeration of the aquatic birds that retired there, being also appreciated by haunters.
The fauna is represented by many species of birds and some mammals: the fox, the pig, the rabbit, the deer.
