The Wesselényi Castle from Jibou, Salaj county, was built in the 18th century, in the Barock style, being completed in the 19th century with new elements. The first stadium of the construction was between 1785 and 1789. Between 1797 and 1800 the building started again and there are mentioned as masons a Swabish, 2 masons from Galatii Bistritei and another one called Kovetsi. The buildings from the interior of the castle were made around the year of 1807. The baron Wesselényi died in 1810 when the construction workings were almost finished and the castle had furniture.

His widow continued the construction workings that were ended in 1830. The castle was one of the greatest Barock structure from Transylvania, it has 2 levels and is situated in the centre of the Botanical Garden, founded in 1968 by the teacher Vasile Fati, in the park of the castle. The Botanical Garden lies on a surface of 30 hectares and has an impressive collection of cactus, a Japanese Garden, an aquarium, a little zoological garden. Behind the castle there is a little Roman Garden, that makes the domain of the  Wesselényi castle even more attractive.

The domain of the castle hosted theatre shows, pastoral games, haunting contests and equitation trainings, followed by banquetes.

During communism the castle worked as a general school, high-school and boarding school.
