The Red Tower Castle from Boita
The Red Tower Castle from Boita, Sibiu county, was mentioned for the first time in a Royal document from 1453. The Castle situated in a strategical region was an important border. As the legend says, the name of the castle was given because its walls were painted in red with the blood of the Turkeys defeated in a war from 1493 while they were standing aside to Tara Romaneasca.
The castle was fortified with massive towers, from which the most important was a tower dwelled tower having a rectangular plan, and a 14 meters side, being built on four levels and having narrow windows. The second tower, built in the 15th century had a hexagonal shape, having 7 meters sides. This is connected by a wall with the tower from the road between Sibiu and Ramnicu-Valcea. This tower was completely rebuilt in the last century.
