The Szentkereszty Castle from Arcus

The

The Szentkereszty Castle from Arcus, Covasna county was built in 1890, by the Hungarian baron Béla Szentkereszty, in the Neo-Barock style. The baron was a relative of the family of the Austrian gruffs Haller and his wife and the family of the Romanian lords Florescu-Bibescu. The edifice has 2 levels and a basement, the main façade stands out because of the terrace sustained by 6 classic columns and the northern side and the Southern side is remarked because of the big gables, rich in architectural elements, realized in the Neo-Barock style.

The park around the castle shelters an artificial lake and a meadow. The most of the trees that populate the park are older than 100 years, the park having its value because of its arrangements, aesthetical of the species, and because of their rarity.

Beginning with the year 1982, the castle became possession of the Comunist party, that restaurated it and prepared it to be the residence of Ceausescu family. The castle and a part of the domain belonging to it became in 1990 a part of the administration of the Culture and Cults Ministery, so that the old noble residence shelters nowadays the Arcus Culture Centre.
