The

The Sükösd-Bethlen Castle from Racos, Brasov county, was built in 1625, in the Transylvanian Renaissance style, by the gruff  Sükösd. The fortified edifice, not very big, was a noble residence. The fortification had circular bastions on the corners and a square tower on the entrance, tipical late military architecture. On the main façade of the tower from the gate, there is an inscription that showed that Samuel Bethlen made works of decoration and structure, which were ended in 1700.

The Castle is remembered in documents as being the place where the wife of the emperor of Tara Romaneasca found refugee in 1664. Mrs. Maria, Grigore Ghica’s wife found a shelter in the castle with the help of the principle of Transylvania, Mihail Apafi, following to give birth here to her son, Matei. The Otthomans who were in conflict with Grigore Ghica ask to Apafi to send Mrs. Maria and the treasures in Istambul, but the principle refuses. During the revolution from 1848 the castle was burned. After 1873 the castle became property of Teleki Samuel, who sold the edifice.

In 1992 the castle was restaurated, in present it is in a quite good condition.
