The Mikes-Szentkereszty Castle from Zagon
The Mikes-Szentkereszty Castle from Zagon, Covasna county, was built in 1632 and suffered many reconstructions during the 17th and 20th century. The castle is situated in the centre of the commune and hosts now the Culture House of Zagon. The ex owner of the castle, Mikes Kelemen is considered the parent of the Hungarian belletristic; in his memory there was built a monument in the park having his name, as well as the cultural house and the castle from the town. In the castle there are saloons built in the memory of the historian Csutak Vilmos, born in Papauti village and in the memory of the actress Kiss Manyi, who also spent her childhood in that village. The actress had a wonderful career, being nominated on the “Kossuth” and “Jászai ” awards.
The rural tourism starts to be more and more important, so that not only the castle is of a great interest, but also the Church, built between 1783 and 1795 and the library from the reformed patriarchy, that has many books, dating from the 16th and 17th century.
