Castelul Bohuş din Şiria

Castelul

The Bohus castle from Siria, Arad county, is formed by a single complex of buildings and has 30 rooms. The main side has a façade and a terrace having Dorian columns, being a building built in the neo-classic style, like the cognacs. Being built in the first half of the 19th century, it was the place where there were discussed the treatises about the capitulation of the Revolutionary Hungarian Army, on the 13th 1849. The treaties were discussed between the supreme commandant of the Hungarian Army, Görgey Artúr and the Russian general Frolov.

From 1960 the castle hosts a permanent exhibition for Emil Montia, who spent a part of his life in Siria. There are exposed objects that belonged to the great composer, from which we can remember: the furniture from the working room, his piano, editions of his works (“Fata de la Cozia”, “Cercel”, “Mostenitorul”. Etc). Therefore the Bohus castle brings us the life and the works of the two artists.

Here there are also 3 artistic monuments: the statue of Ioan Slavici, the statue of Mihai Eminescu and the statue of Russu-Sirianu.

Close to the castle there is the monument Antonie Bohus, from whom was given the name of the castle. It became known because of the reliance of the imprisoned revolutionars after 1849, like Eftimie Murgu, who was a jurist and philosophy teacher, politician, part of the Revolutionary Hungarian Parliament , and then lawyer in Budapest.
