The Salt Mine Ocna Sibiului

Ocna Sibiului is a tourist resort situated 15 km away from Sibiu, on the Visa river. The first balneal resort was founded here in 1845 and, since then, Ocna Sibiului got its reputation because of its heliothermal lakes formed around some old, destroyed salt mines. Between 1906 and 1909 there was built the central pavilion and the building with the baths. They have halls for hot baths, for mud packaging, aerosols, pools. Among these here there are the lakes Horea, Closca and Crisan, formed by the inundation of 6 old Salinas.

Ocna Sibiului also presents an archeological interest, here being discovered tools form the Bronze Age (1900-800) that are exposed on the Brukenthal Museum from Sibiu.

The temperature difference and salinity is used for therapeutic purposes. A surface of 2000 meters was declared natural reservation, as a consequence of its scientifical value.
