The Turzii Keys Natural Reservation
The Cheile Turzii Reservation lies on a distance of 6 km from Turda, being situated on the Hasdate Valley. Their length is 2900 meters and the walls are 300 meters high, having a surface of 125 hectares. They were formed as a result of the erosion of the limestone rock from the Hasdate River. The landscape is dominated by the presence of some high and abrupt cliffs, high tops, etc. On the territory of the reservation there are 60 caves, from which the most popular is Cetateaua Mare, situated on the right side of the Hasdate Valley.
In Cheile Turzii there are about 1000 species of flora species (wild garlic, the cock foot, etc.), 67 species of bird, fish species, the stone marten, the weasel, etc. The Turzii Keys are a complex natural reservation that shelters botanic, geologic, fauna, archeological and landscape special values.
Turzii Keys has numerous tracks to the tourist attractions: Turului Keys, Ciucas Waterfall, Borzesti Keys.
The visiting of the reservation on the whole protected area is permitted only on the marked tracks. Being a protected area, on the tracks from the valley, the garbage will be collected in bags that can be found on the visiting ticket points and they will be thrown in pueblos or containers from the entering on the valley points or will be transported on any point of garbage collecting. The Turzii keys represent the most well known natural reservation from the Territory of Cluj County, having a visitors number of over 45000 people, fact that makes it one of the most visited natural objectives from the county. Most of the tourists visit the Turzii Keys Reservation in the period between August and July.
The Turzii Keys are famous because of the possibilities to practice the sports escalation, here there are over 150 tracks for escalation, of different lengths and difficulty degrees. Also the area offers conditions for practicing the mountain tracks, there are over 100 km of tourist marks around the Keys, to the objectives from the area or other mountains. There can also be practiced mountain sports, such as: mountain cycling, in the winter season skiing, paragliding, etc.
