The Reservation of the Biosphere Pietrosu Rodnei
The Reservation of the Pietrosu Rodnei Biosphere is situated close to Borsa and Moisei and it includes the Northern side of Rodna Mountains. The 3300 hectares of the reservation occupy the alpine gulf and the conifers or mixed forests from Pietrosu Mountain, from where it remarked the Pietrosu Mare top, being 2303 meters high. The reservation is administrated on the National Park Rodna Mountains, having the purpose to conserve the natural habitats, the flora and the fauna, the biologic diversity and the long lasting development of the area.
It is the widest natural complex reservation (geomorphologic, flora and fauna) from the North of our country. Starting with 1979 it was included in the World System of biospheres reservations.
The Reservation includes an important glacial relief: the glacial circles Buhaescu, Zanoaga Iezerului, Zanoaga Mare, Zanoaga Maica, Rebra, Gropi, having waterfalls on the cliffs polished by the glaciers.
The widest part of the reservation has metamorphic rocks from Panza de Rodna.
The main tops from the Reservation are: Buhaescu Mare (2221 m), Buhaescu Mic (2199 m), Gropi (3063 m), Piatra Alba (2061 m), Hotarului (1905 m), Batrana (1770 m).
In the reservation Pietrosu Rodnei there are the glacial lakes: Iezerul Pietrosului has a surface of 3450 square meters and the maximum depth of the lake is 2,10 meters, Buhaescu, having the surface of 700 square meters and the depth of 1,80 meters; Buhaescu II has the surface of 1700 square meters, the maximum depth of 5,20 meters; Buhaescy III having the surface of 700 square meters, the maximum depth of 0, 35 meters, Buhaescu IV, having the surface of 1100 square meters and the maximum depth of 0, 30 meters.
On the territory of the reservation there are living many species of birds (the Mountain Cock, The Mountain Eagle), mammals (The Brown Bear, the lynx, the wolf, the wild cat, the squirrel, the marmot, the black goat), protected by law.
In the reservation there is a diversified vegetation, from the kind of hill vegetation to the alpine one, including a number of rare species, endemisme rodneene.
