Chilia Veche

Chilia

Chilia Veche is a village situated in the North of Tulcea county, on the right bank of  the branch of Chilia. It is the most inhabited  rural settlement from Delta. 2500 years ago, the Greek merchants used to have here their comunity called Achilea or Licostomo.

The most important tourist attractions from this area are:

-  The chuch built in 1854, allowed by the Ottoman Empire that owned by that time the Danube mouth. The height of this church reaches 52 meters, which makes it the second tallest church from our country, after the Black Church from Brasov.

-  The Lipoveneasca church, where can be found very old paintings.

-  The monks monastery, the old Saint Atanasie, located on the right branch called Batag, 5 kilometers away from the Chilia Veche village.

-   Close to Matita lake there can be found pelicans from the biggest colony from Europe.

The landscape is extremely beautiful, appreciated for all of those who want to spend their holiday in the nature, in a quiet place, perfect for relaxing and resting.
