Dăbâca

Dabaca Citadel used to be a regal citadel and the residence of Dabaca comitee, part of the Hungarian Kingdom, having an important role in the History of Transylvania between the 10-14th centuries. According to the archeologists it was partially built on an older settlement in the 9th century and had around ditches for defending, also having a four sided tower and a 3,2 meters wall that were destroyed during the Tartar invasions.

The first attesting of the citadel dates from 1214, and in 1243 was given as a gift by Bela the 4th of Hungary to the comits Theotonicus and Hermann, as a thanking for their services and in 1271 it was given to Micud.

The citadel developed from a simple fortification to a residence citadel of Dabaca committee. As a result of the damage suffered from the Tartars invations it was rebuilt, but couldn’t get back its initial importance. The citadel had the form of a ring and had 4 fortified buildings, with a diameter of 600 meters. It was placed in the superior terrace of Lone Valley and had the role to maintain the control on the salt way from Sic to Poarta Mesesului.
