Constanta

Constanta is a city located on the Black Sea Coast, South-East of Romania, in the historical region Dobrogea, the chief town of the county with the same name, and the biggest city of the South-East region development. Constanta and Cluj Napoca are the cityes with the best living standards in Romania.

The city borders to North with the towns Navodari and Ovidiu, to South with the village called Agigea , to West with Murfatlar and the village Valu lui Traian and to South East the town Techirghiol and the village Cumpana and to East with the Black Sea Coast.

Constanta is divided in neighbourhoods, Mamaia and North Tomis being the most famous, but not having any kind of administrative autonomy, like for example the districts of Bucharest, and the borders are not exactly delimited, except the resort-neighbourhood Mamaia, that has well defined borders.

Sight seeing: Constanta, being one of Romania’s biggest cityes, has also got a great national cultural importance. Here can be found The National Theatre and The Opera and Ballet Theatre Danovski, that was established in 2004. Constanta is well known also for the big number of museums: The Museum of Science, that has 6 sections: the  delphinarium,  the planetarium, the observatory, microrezervation and exhibition of exotic birds and decorations, the Aquarium, The Romanian Marina Museum, The Popular Art Museum, The National Histrory and Archeology Museum, The Sea Museum, The Constanta Seaport Museum, The Sculpting Museum “Ion Jalea”.

The Casino, as an unique example of the art nouveau architecture in Romania, had been restored and today is considered the symbol of the city. The old mosque and synagogue still can be seen (the latter doesn’t have a roof any more) and the new mosque, built in 1910 in the Moresque style can be visited. The Roman Edifice from the 2nd century or the Luminary called Genovez ( built in 1860 by the French engineer Michel Pasa on the  genovesse socle from the Middle Ages) are, together with the Greek church from Mircea cel Batran Boulevard, the oldest buildings in town. There are also a few monuments, for example Ovidiu’s Statue and the Bust of Mihai Eminescu, on the cliff. The one that used to be the mayoralty, today the Museum of National History and Archeology, was also kept, and the building of the Marina Museum had been recently restored.
