European Commission calls for tourism operators to promote the 112

European Commission and the European Association of travel agencies and tour operators  requires tour operators and travel agencies to promote pan-European emergency number "112" on their web sites on electronic tickets and main destinations tourism.

"Transport companies already make their contribution to raising awareness, is now among tour operators and travel agencies to intervene and publicize the emergency number. Europeans must know that they can call this number for help, wherever they are in the EU. "Said Neelie Kroes, European Commission Vice-President responsible for the Digital Agenda.

112 is the single European emergency call that can call for free from landlines and mobiles anywhere in the EU. 112 callers ask about relevant emergency services (local police, fire or medical services) and allows them to speak with an operator in several European languages. The service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. 112 is now operational in all EU Member States, in addition to existing emergency numbers at national level (such as 999 or 110).
