The National Park Piatra Craiului
The National Park Piatra Craiului in Meridional Carpathians, here there are Piatra Craiului and Rucar-Bran and Rucar-Zarnesti. The park lies on the territory of the counties Brasov and Arges, including the towns Zarnesti, Moeciu, Magura, Pestera, Bran, Rucar and Dambovicioara. The total surface of the park is 14 773 hectares. Because of the existence of rare species such as Dianthus Dianthus callizonus, Hesperis nivea, Minuatia transilvanica, Leontopodium alpinum, Piatra Craiului had became natural reservation since 1938, when there were protected only 440 hectares, following that in 1972 the protected area to increase to 900 hectares.
The main tourist attractions are: Creasta Pietrei Craiului, Prapastiile Zarnestilor, Cheile Brusturelui, Dambovicioara Cave, Ursilor Cave.
The recommended tourist tracks are: Northern track of Piatra Craiului, Zarnesti- the lodge of Plaiul Foii- Spirlea- La Lanturi, Piscul Baciului, Padina Hotarelor, Padina Sindrileriei, etc (for experimented tourists) or Zarnesti-Curmatura, Brusturet-Steaua Funduri, Satic-Marele Grohotis.
The National Park Piatra Craiului is a special conservation area that has 4 kars areas: Zanestilor Keys with Zanestilor gulch on the territory of Brasov county, Dambovicioarei Keys, Brusturelui keys, Dambovita keys on the territory of Arges county.
The reason why Piatra Craiului became a National Park is that to ensure the conservation of the bio-diversity and the landscape, the valuable species m the promoting and encouraging the tourism, the education of the tourists to protect nature and its values.
